Casual AfriCAN*

I was cruising scott shumans site  as usual and  I came across this  number. Its simple, artsy, afro inspired with soft summer feel and a cas' rolled cuff. What more could I ask for. Since then , my wardrobe has been bursting at the seems with afro inspired  touches. I truly believe it is time for the world to SEE Africa as power house of inspiration and LIFE. For years people have spoken of the spirit of the African people, I think now they are ready to appreciate it.

While in Halifax, I discovered ARISE. I cant say I had even prayed for a magazine like this because it was beyond my imagination, but it has arrived. This is PROGRESS baby. I am so grateful and ready to step into the next level of fashion// inspiration into something unfathomably great.Welcome ARISE MAG. xo

...o0.visual bliss.0o...

OMFG.

Feels so good to be back.
After a lil break from "my so called life" I am back in.
I was living in the forest and fields and farms of
Nova Scotia, planting trees, LOVING life. ugh so good.

During my adventures, I saw the "trippiest" things.
My mind, eyes and imagination were bursting through
their breeches. Everything was connected.

Amongst my many great discoveries, Basso & Brooke.  Michelle O was
wearing them at an evening of music and poetry at the White House,
and i was touched. Just feel it-  the vibrance, the prints, the geometry.
The greatest part about their S/S09 collection is the movement.
The visual trip. [Being surrounded by the BC Boys didnt help for my
vocabulary. xo]It is a visual artists dream in my mind.
My fav's incorporate the essentials, - the elements and principles of design. Thank you Basso and Brooke. Their Fall 09 is not to be missed either.

as an avid follower of scott shuman's blog, i felt it necessary to share some looks that have appeared recently and express my ambivalence. my enthusiasim comes from life going amazingly, and alot of that has to do with the people i have been keeping around me. these images mirror the fashion images and inspirations of me and my dearest friends, lady jane hall and emilie jean.

enjoy yourself, take only what you need*

stepping out

thank god for DKNY. her RTW FALL'09 has woken me from my slumber. the first image, i love. the houndstooth in red and wait for it... grey. i am not done with the grey. its lasted 3+ seasons now and i am still in love. longer than most of my relationships. moving on. the second is a blow out dress that had been made practical. i could see my self rocking that on a big night or at work when i feel like hot sex aka a good day. the third, is my style in a nutshell. in point form. the black. the grey. the button. the boots  and the structure.struckch-ah!

overall, the colour, the practicality does not take away the creativity that donna has applied here. the way its universal in its delivery is revered.  i am all over this collection. donna karen forever.

firey muse

Few words are needed here. Its live. After reading more on Jasmine Di Milo's RTW Spring'09 collection, the wigs she used for the models were stunning. Every piece I saw was like art -rebellious, free spirited, smart and still chic. Even the design of the runway forces you to take it all in, demands your attention This image is definitely a-mused for me.  A new favourite*

the big rose bow...

As i prepare to move into my first leased apartment, tout seule, i take in Rachel Comey's vintage, NYC energy inspired, floral revitalization of old as new and mix matchy as matched. I'll be doing a lot of vintage shopping in the months ahead. Its good know that there is a way to make it all look good. So even if my gifts are wrapped in newspaper they will finish with a big rose bow*

p.s.

I havent forgetten about the United State of Americas revered and qualified new leader Barack Obama. I am ecstatic. As Style.Com reads, "Brighter Things To Come" without a doubt. Lets start over here with an amazing mosaic by Charis Tsevis. His style is strongly reminiscent to 'The God Father of Photo Realism," Chuck Close whose work I had the privilege of seeing in Washington DC years ago. Like Pollock, its grandeur is only explained up close. Along side some Versace, to keep it all in line. Gotta love it... xo

long over due

All week I have been thinking about this image and how I must share it. Its bright brilliant and touches on a wild west type of string. I love that Jean Paul Gaultier used Yasmine Warsame for the beautiful frock. The classic cowboy hat, the strong accessories and the slit for days. Its too much fun really. It sets the stage for what I hope to see more of in the coming months color and movement. There is some culture in this as well which is how it should be done unlike Christian Diors heinous African Pump. Just take a look?! Anyways, there is hope now, there is hope.

hard days work

I've been working like crazy the last few weeks and this one is for the light blue collars. Peter Soms Spring '09. This look is simple, comfy and  sexy in a just-spent-the -night-at my-boyfriends//lovers-kinda way. The belt reminds me of my dear friend Tilly Post who knows how to wear the belt with a feminine touch, its all about the knot. Thanks for that one Tills.

Chanel Couture

What I love most about Chanel is its ablility to captivate and still remain consistent in quality. Season after season, there is always something fresh there. Mr Lagerfield is a genuis. I admire all the men who create and design in high fashion.I believe it takes loving women and beauty, and understanding the nature of creativity to be able to deliver the grand collections they do.

Here are a few images from the Spring'08 Couture. The form, the florals, the way the hint of blue in the the third image creates a story in my mind of feathers and flying and Grecian goddess'. All of it is stirring and allows you travel with just one image.  Plus they are all wearing flats, so humbling. The ones in the center are heavenly. I must find them.        xo
